The issue of bribe-taking videos of the governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje, resurfaced again at the maiden meeting of APC Presidential Campaign Council, with President Muhammadu Buhari contemplating visiting the state for campaign, DAILY NIGERIAN report.
The governor has appeared in a series of videos published by DAILY NIGERIAN allegedly receiving bribe from a contractor.
DAILY NIGERIAN reliably gathered that the president may not visit Kano unless when “necessary” in view of the bribe-taking scandal the governor is enmeshed in.
The agenda for the meeting was to consider and approve the structure and operational modalities of the Presidential Campaign Council.
A member of the council, Bashir Lado, had earlier raised issues about the campaign timetable, suggesting that Kano and Lagos should come last in view of their population and electoral significance.
Responding to Mr Lado’s question, Mr Buhari asked rhetorically “What if Kano people asked me why was their governor receiving bribe and smiling?”
“I really don’t have answers to that. I can’t go to Kano for campaign unless when necessary,” Mr Buhari said to the applause and praise of the participants of the closed-door meeting.
The President, however, charged the members of the council not to rest even for a moment, appealing to them to dedicate and commit themselves to the task at hand.
“Even though we are confident of winning, I urge you to work as hard as you can so that we can maximize the scale and extent of our victory.
“I urge you to rise to the challenge of the great expectations this party and Nigerians have for you – and the confidence that I personally have in the ability of all of you to deliver.
“Needless to add, your selection was not easy, because in forming this council, the party settled only for the best.
“You are the cream of the party and I assure you that with unity of purpose and effective harmony and communication, there is no political opponent you cannot overcome,” Mr Buhari said.
