CJN Has Not Resigned, To Swear In Members Of The 2019 National Assembly, Governorship and State Assembly Election Petition Tribunals Says Media Aide

Senior Special Assistant on media to the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Awassam Bassey, JP., has debunked the news to the effect that the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Honourable Justice Walter Onnoghen, (GCON) has resigned. This was disclosed to TheNigerialawyer (TNL) in the early hours of today, the 25th day of January, 2019.
Dismissing the rumour, Mr. Bassey said that there’s absolutely no truth in the rumours
making the round.
According to him, the news is fake, as the Hon CJN was in the office all through yesterday (Thursday) and sat in court. He also added that as part of his duties, the Hon. CJN will be swearing in members of the 2019 National Assembly, Governorship and State Assembly Election Petition Tribunals tomorrow (Saturday 26th January 2019).

”There’s absolutely no truth in the rumours making the round that the Hon. Chief Justice of Nigeria, His Lordship Hon. Mr. Justice Walter Samuel Nkanu Onnoghen, GCON, has resigned his office. It is fake news! The Hon CJN was in the office all through yesterday (Thursday) and sat in court. As part of his duties, the Hon CJN will be swearing in members of the 2019 National Assembly, Governorship & State Assembly Election Petition Tribunals tomorrow (Saturday 26th January 2019).”
TheNigerialawyer (TNL), recalls that there has been a report making the round in a media outlet, that the Chief Justice of Nigeria and Chairman of the National Judicial Council, Honourable Justice Walter Onnoghen has resigned from office.
The rumour is been disseminated following the trial of the CJN before the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) for allegations on false declaration and breach of the Code of Conduct for Public officers.
