A human rights lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Femi Falana, has today turned 61.
TheNigeriaLawyer (TNL) hereby joins family, friends and professional colleagues of the eminent jurist in celebrating the milestone.
Actually, it is not easy commenting on the persona called Femi Falana (SAN) because of the dilemma of deciding which aspect of this extraordinary Nigerian to focus on.
In recognition of his excellence in practice, Femi Falana Became a Senior Advocate of Nigeria in the year 2012. As a known human right activist in Nigeria, he once said:
“By the standard of living in Ekiti (then a part of the present Ondo State) in the 50s, his father was well to do and he therefore could have lived comfortably even without activism. But the passion to defend the less privileged was too strong for him to resist; it is the way he wants to live his life. And though he once contemplated it, he decided to opt out of the opportunity to take an oath of celibacy as a Catholic priest, coupled with the fact that he could not watch other people suffer where he lived; this led him to ‘marry the Law”….. Even as an activist, Falana is also provides free legal services to the poor and disadvantaged. He has been detained numerous times by the security services for his activism and he has won
numerous awards locally and internationally for his activism.
He has presented numerous papers on diverse legal issues and published several articles in both local and international journals as well as books on contemporary legal issues including: Fundamental Rights Enforcement, Legal and Policy Framework of Occupational Health and Safety in Nigeria and Working In Danger.
Falana SAN is a member of the West African Bar Association; Nigerian Bar Association, Pan African Lawyers Union and International Bar Association.
May God grant him longer life, good health and more wisdom to keep serving the country.
