Alvaro Morata reveals he spoke to Cesar Azpilicueta before opting to join Chelsea this summer
After months of speculation about his future, Chelsea confirmed on Wednesday night that they had agreed a fee with Real Madrid to bring him to Stamford Bridge this summer.
The move comes after the 24-year-old Spaniard was also linked with a transfer to Manchester United before the Red Devils tied up a deal to land Romelu Lukaku from Everton.
Morata is poised to become Chelsea’s fourth signing of the summer and the striker has revealed that Azpilicueta helped to convince him that a move to Stamford Bridge was a wise decision.
Speaking to Sky Sports News after arriving at Heathrow Airport on Thursday morning, Morata said: “I spoke with Azpilicueta and he told me everything is OK and if I need something he’s there.”
Morata will be hoping to help Chelsea retain their Premier League title next season after the Blues won the top-flight trophy in Antonio Conte’s first campaign in charge last term.
The west London side are also preparing for a return to the Champions League next season after missing out last term.
