Kebbi Varsity Secures NUC’s Accreditation For 20 Programs


The National Universities Commission, NUC has accredited 20 undergraduate programmes of the Federal University Birnin-Kebbi, FUBK.
A statement by the head of the university’s information and public relations department, Jamilu M. Magaji, said that 12 out of the accredited programmes were granted full accreditation status while eight secured interim accreditation status.
According to him, the accredited programmes are within two faculties: Faculty of Arts, Social and Management Sciences and Faculty of Science.
Mr Magaji disclosed that NUC’s Director of Accreditation, N.B. Saliu stated that while full accreditation status is valid for five years, interim status lasts for two years, after which the programmes would be revisited.
DAILY NIGERIAN reports that the programmes that secured full accreditation status are: Accounting, Applied Geophysics, Biochemistry, Business Administration, Computer Science as well as Demography & Social Statistics.
Others include Economics, History & International Studies, Mathematics, Political Science, Sociology and Statistics.
On the other hand, the programmes with interim accreditation status include Biology, Chemistry (Industrial), Chemistry (Pure) and English Language. The rest are Geography, Geology, Microbiology and Physics with Electronics.
Commenting on the outcome, Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor B.B. Shehu, expressed delight over the results, saying the University was happy with the results as none of the programmes was denied accreditation.
He, therefore, expressed optimism that the 8 programmes with interim accreditation status would score full accreditation in the next 2 years.
While appreciating the efforts of different stakeholders that took part in the exercise, the V-C commended the members of the Governing Council, Senate, Management, Staff and Students of the University for the support and cooperation which made the exercise successful.
It would be recalled that in March 2018, the NUC sent accreditation teams to the University to access the 20 academic programmes of the University.
